Stay Safe in the Sun Policy

Skoolz out recognises how damaging direct sunlight can be on the staff and the children/young people. It is so easy for children to get sunburn on their delicate skin. We take sun protection seriously and have provided a fact sheet based on information from Cancer Research UK for parent/carers and will facilitate an activity to alert the children to the dangers.

Trips/Outings

If a child arrives at the base without suitable clothing or footwear the parent/carer will need to collect items and drop them off. Please be advised that on trips and outings we are committed to a schedule and would not be able to wait. Therefore your child would miss the trip/outing.

Safe in the sun procedures:

Staff will ensure that

  • Children are wearing appropriate clothing/footwear
  • I a child is wearing a top that does not cover their shoulders Paren’t/carers will be advised of risk of sunburn.
  • Children do not take their t-shirts off under any circumstances
  • Children wear trainers or canvas pumps as top of feet can get burnt.
  • Children wear a sunhat with their name on it in extremely warm weather
  • Parents have applied sun cream prior to start of session
  • Parents have signed consent form for staff to help children administer sun cream
  • You have sun cream to hand during trips/outings.
